Governor runs to work

September 14, 2001 By admin

It’s said a good politician is always running. That was literally the case this morning with Governor Tom Vilsack.Tuesday’s terrorism didn’t intrude on the jog under cloudy skies. Vilsack ran from the Governor’s Mansion a little over two miles to his office at the capitol. Vilsack invited a dozen Des Moines high schoolers to run alongside.Iowa’s chief executive runs 30 miles a week, and this “Run to Work” event was originally set aside to promote physical fitness. He says runs allow him to think about things and he figured the run -needed- to go on this morning as part of the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance.Vilsack says he wanted to show them the whole country is one large family today and the importance of moving forward — one step at a time.
