Senator asked to help assure stability of financial markets

September 14, 2001 By admin

Senator Charles Grassley has been asked to help reassure the public about the nation’s financial markets. Grassley is the top-ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, and is planning to join the U-S Treasury Secretary and the top democrat on the Finance Committee in a news conference to ensure there’s no lack of confidence. The stock market is to reopen on Monday. Grassley says Americans shouldn’t expect business as usual, though. A company that did a third of the business in the bond market was at the top of one of the Trade Center towers, and 700 of its employees are missing. He says that in itself will have an impact on the economy of the United States and New York.
