Red Cross calls another Iowa to Eastern disaster

September 15, 2001 By admin

Another Iowan with the Red Cross is being tapped for the nation’s recovery center out east. Central Iowa Chapter Executive Director Carol Grant will go to the operations center at the Pentagon.Grant is to leave Sunday to fly to the area where terrorist attacks took hundreds of lives this week. She’s only done natural-disaster assignments up to now so she’ll learn when she gets there what’s different about this. Grant’s job will be to seek out local groups and make sure everyone knows about services the Red Cross is providing. She’ll be in Washington D-C for three weeks. She says the job certainly won’t be done then, but other people will be brought in. The rotation is to handle the emotional stress of recovery work, just as Grant explains the Red Cross helps ease the pain and burnout of those working directly on the search and recovery effort.
