Iowa Guard awaits the Federal call

September 17, 2001 By admin

Iowa’s military reserves are waiting for the call to active service. President Bush will mobilize 50-thousand reserve troops, but that order will go through layers of military bureaucracy and commanders will determine who gets called up, and where. In the meantime, Iowa’s National Guard waits.Iowa National Guard spokesman Colonel Robert King says every one of the state’s 96-hundred guard and reserve members have been on high alert since last week’s attacks in New York and Washington. He says the units are getting in the best possible shape that they can.Colonel King says everyone’s been taking seriously their responsibility to be prepared for a call-up, but it’s not like a reservist couldn’t take a fishing weekend while they wait for details.
