October 1, 2001 By admin

Congressman Jim Nussle was among a group from Congress given a tour of the World Trade Center site today. New York City’s Mayor, the Governor of New York, and a chaplain escorted Nussle through the area from the New York Police Department. Nussle says it’s important for policymakers to see the area as they move forward with relief efforts.Nussle is chairman of the House Budget Committee which helped craft the 40-billion dollar package for New York City and the federal response to the terrorist attacks. There may be a second recovery package in the works.Nussle says he can’t find the words to adequately describe the scene in New York.Nussle says for him, this is turning out to be a week of wide-ranging emotions: today’s somber trip to New York, followed by his own wedding Saturday. Nussle will marry Karen Chiccehitto in Chicago. She’s a public relations consultant in Washington. It’s Nussle’s second marriage.
