ISU QB wins weekly honor in Big 12

October 1, 2001 By admin

Iowa State quarterback Seneca Wallace has been named the Big-12 Conference offensive player of the week. Wallace completed 22 of 24 passes for 299-yards and four touchdowns in the Cyclones 41-0 win over Baylor. During one stretch, Wallace completed a Big-12 record 18-straight passes. I-S-U coach Dan McCarney says Wallace has progressed faster than they had hoped as Wallace has only been on campus since January. McCarney says it’s amazing that Wallace has been able to learn the new offense so quickly.McCarney says Wallace makes plays and also is a good leader on offense. The challenge gets more difficult this week as the Cyclones visit fourth-ranked Nebraska. Husker coach Frank Solich says it is a bigger challenge for his team, too. Solich says the Cyclones are the best team they’ll have played thus far, that includes Notre Dame.Solich says Wallace can make big plays with his arm and his legs. He says ISU has had good quarterbacks in the past, but says Wallace is good in both the passing and running game.Solich says despite inexperience, the Cyclone defense is making strides with its young players.
