Governor issues formal call to Iowa National Guard for airport security

October 3, 2001 By admin

Iowa’s Governor today formally issued the order which called up National Guard troops to provide security at Iowa airports. Governor Tom Vilsack says about 35 Iowa Guard members will begin patrolling eight commercial airports this weekend. There was some confusion Monday over which airports would be affected. Today’s executive order lists the Des Moines, Sioux City, Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Burlington, Dubuque, Fort Dodge and Mason City airports. In a prepared statement, Vilsack said the enhanced security will help strengthen the economy by reassuring Americans that it’s o-k to fly.
