Security troops at two Iowa Air Guard squadrons have been activated. Radio Up to 75 security police have been activated at the National Guard’s fighter-wing bases at Sioux City and Des Moines. Their title is “airmen,” but the guard’s Colonel Robert King confirms these are not pilots or mechanics. They’re security police who are doing security work at the bases, guarding planes, bases and personnel. King says the units have been called to active duty for twelve months. They’re performing security now at the Sioux City and Des Moines bases, but could be called to duty somewhere else. Colonel King didn’t have any direct response to a question about whether the security forces called to active duty will get any new or additional training in the current world crisis. He says they’re all current and ready for worldwide deployment. Though the call up is for one year, their activation could be extended to 24 months.
