UNI tests math skills on-line

October 5, 2001 By admin

Budding young math wizards can test their skills over the Internet for prizes on a website run by the University of Northern Iowa. The first of six math puzzles is now on the site — and it’s a brain twister.U-N-I math professor Doug Shaw, says there are a few different ways to arrive at the right answer, one of which involves multiplying fifty numbers in decreasing order. He says you can look for patterns so you don’t have to multiply them all out.Shaw says the website “www.math.uni.edu” targets high school students anywhere in Iowa. New puzzles will be posted every other week.Prizes include certificates, more than one hundred dollars in cash and games donated by a company Shaw describes as a premium-quality a puzzle merchant.
