Lottery Still Hopping Despite Terrorism

October 6, 2001 By admin

While the economy has gone flat after the September 11th terrorist attacks,Iowans haven’t seemed to stop playing the lottery. Iowa Lottery spokesmanJoe Hrdlicka checked the recent pattern in lottery sales, and doesn’t seeany direct link to the attacks. He says sales do seem to slow when gasprices go up. Gas prices did jump briefly amid rumors following the attacks, but quickly stabilized and have been dropping since. Hrdlicka says theexcitement over a big “Powerball” jackpot spurred record sales in August. The Iowa Lottery had record sales of 26-point-six million dollars in August.
