Peace Prize Party Falls Under Pall

October 8, 2001 By admin

The Iowa Council for International Understanding had a get-togetheryesterday to celebrate having its foreign visitors program nominated for theNobel Peace Prize. Michele Soria (sor’-ee-uh), the Council’s executivedirector, says the attacks in Afghanistan made their program more importantthan ever. When the Pentagon and World Trade Center were attacked September11th, Soria says her agency found out how strong the connections they’vemade overseas already are. About 200 people turned out for yesterday’sevent, and the war was on their minds. Some can’t understand why othersaround the world have such a bad impression of Americans. In the past twoyears, the Iowa Council for International Understanding has hosted overtwo-hundred foreign visitors.
