Motor Ioway

October 9, 2001 By admin

A rolling museum of automobiles is making its way across southeastern Iowa, western Illinois and northeastern Missouri this week. John Swanson is one organizer of the trip called Motor Ioway. He says about 200 cars are cruising on the weeklong trek, all made earlier than 1976 and many of them dating back into the 1920s, 30s and 40s. Swanson says the thousand-mile trip is a pleasure for the drivers and passengers, and for the people who encounter the purring string of well-kept cars. There are there Model A’s in the car caravan, all built around 1928, and a rare 1935 Auburn Boat-Tail Speedster once owned by the President of Mexico, that now belongs to Floyd Duvall of Davenport. The oldest car? A 1918 REO 7-passenger open touring car. The Motor Iowa Tour is in Missouri today, with scheduled stops tomorrow in Keokuk, and Friday in Clinton, Washington, and Cedar Rapids.
