Two die in Newton accident

October 10, 2001 By admin

Two teens died in an accident in Newton last night. The call came about 1-40 in the morning: a car cruising a new subdivision in Newton had gone off the end of a roadway, slid down an embankment, and plunged into the water of a creek in the Fountain Hills neighborhood. A 19-year-old and a 21-year-old man escaped and walked to a highway where they called for help. Two others, trapped inside the submerged car, were rescued by uniformed officers but it was too late. 17-year-old Stephen Gilkison and 18-year-old Howard Palmer Junior were pronounced dead.
