One dies in Burlington bus accident

October 17, 2001 By admin

A school bus and a van collided yesterday in southeast Iowa, killing one person and injuring nearly two-dozen members of the Burlington High School volleyball team.
The collision happened around 4:20 Tuesday afternoon near Wapello, killing the driver of the van and leaving 22 members of the volleyball team injured. The Iowa State Patrol says the school bus crossed the center line and hit the van head-on, killing 53-year-old Larry Haines of Blue Grass. The bus driver was 65-year-old Doris Miller of Burlington. Her injuries were not reported. Students’ injuries are all minor. No charges have been filed and the accident is under investigation.
