U-of-I Athletic Department faces cuts

The athletic department at the University of Iowa is falling victim to budget cuts. University of Iowa President Mary Sue Coleman announced today that phase two of the west campus athletic and recreation complex will be delayed by one year. Phase two includes the aquatic center, tennis facilities, lockers and showers.
Phase one of the project includes the Hall of Fame, visitors center and women’s soccer field. Coleman also says the athletic department will make some personnel cuts.
Four positions will be left vacant, and two will be eliminated following upcoming retirements. Coleman says they department will also make some changes in its mode and frequency of travel.
