The state’s fiber optic network was hacked into, and hundreds of dollars worth of phone calls were made, many to foreign countries. Governor Tom Vilsack has been briefed on the case.
Vilsack says the hacker used a phone card. Vilsack says he doesn’t know if there’s a terrorist connection. He says steps have been taken to prevent such a thing from happening again.
The “Iowa Communications Network” links Iowa schools with fiber optic lines that can transmit audio and video, as well as regular phone calls.
