State Patrol seizes over 200 pounds of marijuana

October 22, 2001 By admin

The Iowa State Patrol seized marijuana worth over 400-thousand dollars in two seperate traffic stops this weekend. Sergeant Robert Hansen says one stop came Sunday on Interstate 29 in Pottawattamie County.
A trooper stopped a 33-foot motorhome and asked to search it after getting conflicting information from the driver and passenger. The trooper found 150 pounds of marijuana with and estimated value of 225-thousand dollars. Hansen says that stop followed a bust on Friday.
A trooper stopped a vehicle on I-80 in Dallas County and smelled marijuana. A search turned up 120 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of 180-thousand dollars. Hansen says the busts are pretty typical of what can be found on Iowa’s interstate highways.
The two men in the Sunday stop were from Michigan, while the man stopped Friday is from New Jersey. All three are facing felony drug charges along with traffic violations. All three are being held in county jails.
