Iowa’s only nuclear power plant will be back online before long.
Engineers say they took the Duane Arnold energy center offline last week after an electrical malfunction affected important water circulation systems in the reactor. The plant at Palo makes enough electricity to supply 400-thousand homes, but managers arrange for other energy supplies through the regional power grid. Maureen Brown at the power-plant managing company’s headquarters says the repairs are done and it could be back online at any time, but exactly when is information that they won’t tell.
