A former teacher on trial for providing marijuana and alcohol to a group of students a year ago is taking the stand in his own defense.
Fifty-nine-year-old Bernard Roland is accused of taking three behaviorally disordered students on “field trips” to a cabin where they repeatedly smoked marijuana. Prosecutors also say Roland took the students to a bar in Elgin where they played pool while he drank beer. He’s pleaded not guilty to charges of giving marijuana and alcohol to minors. The teacher was fired last November.
