An Iowa State University political-science professor says there was no shortage of students for a new honors course called “Understanding Terrorism.” Professor Steffen Schmidt says he’d already planned series of lectures on Colombian drug lords, the culture and world effect of their actions. When the terrorist attack happened he moved back the seminar and instead of just the Colombian drug war, expanded it to this. The class for honors students includes Monday meetings as well as the lectures already scheduled for the Colombian terrorist series, and daily reading of the New York Times. Schmidt says including a look at terrorism in other times and countries will give ISU students perspective on the current situation facing America. He says it isn’t something that just happened, but has been going on a long time in many countries. Professor Schmidt says there may be another terrorism class offered next term.
