A worker-safety penalty will be eased in the deaths of two railcar workers in Oelwein. The Iowa Occupational Safety and Health Bureau has reduced the amount of a fine levied against an Oelwein railcar refurbishing business after the deaths of two company employees. Trans-Co Railcar, Incorporated had been fined 90-thousand dollars for 20 safety violations, but the fine’s now been reduced to 35-thousand. The action stems from an incident on August 23 in which 49-year-old John Woodson and 46-year-old Daniel Stile both collapsed after working in a railroad tanker car. Autopsies revealed both men died after breathing nitrogen.
