The state of Iowa’s Office of Drug Control Policy rolled out a new educational program today. It’s a set of CD-ROM’s, today’s version of the classroom filmstrip. The computer program was shown at Des Moines’ Callanan Middle School. The lessons are designed for classroom use but also for local agencies like Boys and Girls clubs or YMCAs. The animated shows are voiced by kids from Callanan. Unfortunately the program froze up inexplicably during the demo presentation. Kids at Callanan Middle School science class say they enjoyed the high-tech program aimed at helping them resist drugs. The program is titled “Life or meth,” and consists of several CD-ROMS. A student can study each lesson alone or a teacher can present it in a classroom our group situation. Though the program was produced in Iowa for a five-state Midwest region, it’s already drawn interest, and nearly 100 orders, from teachers as far away as California.
