The high school football playoffs reach the quarterfinal round tonight. In class 4A, second ranked Iowa City High visits number-five Cedar Falls. Long-time Cedar Falls coach Pat Mitchell says the Little Hawks are strong in every area, and there’s no are they can exploit.Mitchell says the Tigers played about as well as they can in a 50-0 first round win over Cedar Rapids Xavier. He says the trick is to “keep it hot” throughout the playoffs.In class 2A, fourth-ranked and defending champion Emmetsburg visits eighth-ranked Central Lyon-George Little Rock. Emmetsburg won a first round matchup between these two teams a year ago and Central Lyon coach Toby Lorenzen says the offense will need to help the defense in this game.Emmetsburg coach Duane Twait says the E-Hawk offense needs to find ways to be effective.In class A, seventh-ranked Van Meter is on the road at second-ranked Manning. Van Meter coach Rick Roberts says Manning’s defense is outstanding and opportunistic. He says anytime you can post six shutouts, a team is doing very well and has depth.Roberts says at this time of year the matchups are so even that it comes down to playmakers.
