Winneshiek County upgrades cell phone locater, but can’t use it yet

November 5, 2001 By admin

Winneshiek County has completed an upgrade to emergency systems to make it easier to locate cell phone calls. But, the phone companies have yet to dial in. Phase two of the system has been installed and will show Winneshiek County dispatchers the exact location of 9-1-1 emergency calls. Dispatchers currently don’t automatically get that information when someone calls. The only problem is none of the cellphone providers are ready to link up to the system.
