A 47-year-old Republican who’s a Certified Public Accountant has launched a campaign to become Iowa’s next State Auditor. David Vaudt of West Des Moines was born and raised in La Verne in north-central Iowa and graduated from Upper Iowa University.Vaudt has been a C-P-A with K-P-M-G/Peat Marwick for the past 25 years. He retired on September 30th in order to run for State Auditor.Vaudt says he’d “think outside the box” and blow the whistle on bad budget practices, regardless of whether republicans or democrats are the guilty party.Long-time Republican State Auditor Richard Johnson, who isn’t seeking re-election, has endorsed Vaudt. Democrat State Senator Patrick Deluhery is running for state Auditor, too.
