Hummer helps raise money for worthy causes

November 7, 2001 By admin

The most conspicuous vehicle cruising west on Interstate-80 this morning will be associated with the group “America Keeps Rolling.” Elizabeth Gilray is a spokeswoman for the effort to visit 48 states in 48 days. The 35-foot long Hummer limousine is shrink-wrapped in the red, white and blue of an American flag. Gilray says the limo is touring the nation and Iowa will be stop number-19 on day-19. She says they are raising money for, in her words, under-funded charities. She says due to September 11th, a lot of dollars have gone to that cause, which is wonderful, but other charities are falling far short of their goals to survive. They are focusing on four charities: The Make-A-Wish Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, Second Harvest, and the Koeman Race for the Cure, which targets breast cancer. Gilray says the limo is scheduled to only make one stop in Iowa, in Des Moines, around noon today. She says they’re making a memorial map quilt.Iowans who would like to donate to the cause but can’t make it to Des Moines today can log on to “www.AmericaKeepsRolling.com” to learn more.
