The head of the Iowa National Guard says soldiers will remain stationed at the state’s airports for the time being. Adjutant General Ron Dardis says 60 soldiers are now on duty across the state. Dardis says the main duty is to augment airport security, and restore Iowans’ confidence in flying. Dardis says this is an important mission.Dardis has been visiting the airports to gauge the reaction of passengers to the guard’s presence. He spoke to reporters in Waterloo.Dardis says the feedback has been “very positive.” Dardis says the original federal call up was for four to six months. He says that’s now been modified to at least six months.
