Sleepy driver may be responsible for deadly accident

November 8, 2001 By admin

A sleepy Missouri truck driver may be to blame in a wreck Wednesday that killed a western Iowa man. An accident at the intersection on two highways in Cass County Wednesday afternoon killed a 19-year-old Atlantic man. According to the Iowa State Patrol, 50-year-old Perry McFarland Junior of Kirksville, Missouri, was driving a semi eastbound on Highway 92 when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel and ran through a stop sign at the junction with Highway 71. His semi broadsided a pickup driven by Aaron Messenger. Messenger was thrown from his vehicle. He was taken by helicopter to an Omaha hospital, where he died. McFarland was not hurt. There’s no word on whether any charges will be filed.
