Election outcome still in doubt in Independence

November 9, 2001 By admin

This week’s elections aren’t all over yet. Controversy has surfaced over the outcome of the fifth-ward city council election in Independence.Election officials declared Betty Knippel the winner over Greg Bressler…by two votes. But 20 votes cast for Bressler were thrown out, because he was a write-in candidate and some voters didn’t properly write in his entire name. Five absentee ballots are still unaccounted for, and that could also change the final outcome when the board of supervisors reviews the election results next Tuesday.
