Groups seek to capitalize on fear after 9-11 attacks

November 12, 2001 By admin

Midwestern racist groups are using the September 11th terrorist attacks as a tool to recruit new members. A study from a Chicago area anti-racism group finds white supremacists are attempting to use the attacks and the threat of new attacks to their advantage. The six-year-old faith-based organization called the Center for New Community, based in Oak Park, Illinois, is tracking more than 300 hate groups in ten Midwestern states, including Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota and Wisconsin. A spokesperson for the group says racist factions are blatantly using images of the burning World Trade Center towers to try and recruit particularly young members and to build support for sealing off America’s borders.
