Iowa Red Cross volunteers head to New York

November 13, 2001 By admin

Seven American Red Cross volunteers from Iowa are headed to New York City to help counsel the families of the victims of Monday’s jet crash. Des Moines psychologist Dr. Charlene Bell just finished her Red Cross training on Saturday and was surprised to be called to duty so soon. This will be the first disaster Dr. Bell has volunteered for through the relief agency, but she says she’s more than ready to be going and will be glad to feel useful.Bell says she has -no- apprehensions about flying aboard a jetliner to New York and she’s flown several times since September 11th. Bell is slated to depart this afternoon at one o’clock. Other volunteers who are going to New York are from: Clinton, Clear Lake, Davenport, Toledo, Steamboat Rock and Mondamin.
