Drake opens season in Hawaii

The Drake basketball team opens the season on the big island of Hawaii and will take on Sam Houston State tomorrow night in the opening round of the Hawaii Rainbow Classic. With a veteran team hopes are high for the Bulldogs and coach Kurt Kanaskie says the early start to the season has condensed pre-season practice.Kanaskie says the biggest surprise of the pre-season has been the play of freshman forward Dave Bancroft. Kanaskie says they’d planned on redshirting Bancroft, but he’s grown and now Kanaskie says he could be a good contributor.
