Iowa starts slow, downs BU

November 15, 2001 By admin

Iowa overcame a sluggish start to race past Boston University 90-61 last night in the second round of the Guardians Classic in Iowa City. Luke Recker led the Hawkeyes with 18-points. He also added 10-rebounds and five assists.Recker says a combination of Boston University defenses had the Hawkeyes confused in the opening half. He says B-U didn’t have confidence in their man-to-man defense and once the Hawks settled down they figured out the other defenses.Iowa coach Steve Alford agreed it took a while for the Hawks to solve BU’s zone defenses. He says it was the first time they’ve faced such a defense. Alford says they crucial thing was getting to the free throw line 27 times.Alford says the Hawks faced a little bit of everything from Boston University.
