Election school proposed for Iowa officials

November 17, 2001 By admin

One of the proposals put forth by the State Elections Reform Task Force is a school for state election officials at Iowa State University. Woodbury County Auditor Pat Gill says the idea started one year ago as they discussed the wacky things happening in Florida’s election.Gill says the training would make a good system in Iowa better, by ensuring they’re all using the same rules. He says the Florida mess showed the need for uniform training. While much of the focus centered on the machines, he says the real problem was a lack of a common standard over what was and what wasn’t a vote. The request for the election training will go, along with other reform suggestions, to the state legislature in January.
