Four charged in chase and shooting in Eastern Iowa

November 19, 2001 By admin

Four eastern Iowans face theft charges after a police chase and shooting. Authorities say 23-year-old Joseph Ward of Middle Amana stole a semi-truck cab about 7:30 last night in west Marion. A police chase followed. Three other people in the semi bailed out before the chase ended. Marion police laid stop sticks which caused Ward to swerve and hit a squad car and veer toward an officer on foot who fired four shots at the truck. Marion Police Chief Harry Daugherty says the suspect, Ward, was hurt in the gunfire, but he doesn’t think Ward was hit by bullets.Ward was taken to the hospital but his injuries are considered not life-threatening. 19-year-old Clayton Foreman of Cedar Rapids and two unidentified teens, from Center Point and Marion, were also taken into custody.
