Coach expects ISU-Iowa game to be electric

November 20, 2001 By admin

The 49th meeting between Iowa State and Iowa closes out the regular season this Saturday and Cyclone coach Dan McCarney expects an electric atmosphere in Jack Trice Stadium.McCarney has been involved in 20 of the games and says this one is unique because it’s at the end of the season and both teams have winning records. Both teams have finished the conference season and have bowl hopes.McCarney says the emotion and hype going into the game really does not make a difference, he says they still have to go out and play.Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says while the records are the same this season the Hawkeyes are still trying to get to the Cyclones’ level where they’re going to bowl games.Ferentz says the biggest advantage in having the game at this point is that Seneca Wallace has had a season to gain confidence and the Cyclones have confidence in him.Ferentz says the Cyclones have established themselves as winners and are confident in their abilities.
