Error leads Manchester website into porn

November 21, 2001 By admin

A clerical error resulted in the City of Manchester’s website turning into a porn site. The notice of renewal for the city’s Internet domain name was sent to the wrong place and the city’s claim to the name expired. Someone in Armenia claimed the rights to the name and then posted pornography on what had been the city’s official website. The operator of the website then offered to sell the name back for 550 dollars. The city has decided to avoid the hassle of legal action in the case, and is changing to a new website name.
