ISU-Iowa ready for big game

November 23, 2001 By admin

Iowa visits Iowa State in the 49th meeting in the series on Saturday. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says despite six victories, a bowl bid is not assured and says besides a good trip, a bowl game would provide for extra weeks of player development.Ferentz sees similarities between Ladell Betts and Ennis Haywood as strong backs who’ve been productive.Iowa State coach Dan McCarney says win or lose the Cyclones deserve to go to a bowl game.Because of Iowa’s small population base, there has always been a theory that the two programs cannot be successful at the same time. McCarney disagrees, because he says both programs have a lot of respect in the Big 12 and Big Ten conferences. Both teams are 6-4.
