Majority of State alcohol sales made during holidays

November 23, 2001 By admin

Iowans will spend millions of dollars on holiday gifts this year, and it’s a good bet some of that money will be spent on holiday spirits. Sales of those bottled spirits peak between now and the end of the year. Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division administrator Lynn Walding says this year isn’t expected to be any different based on early signs. He says they sold six million dollars of alcohol at a holiday show. The slow economy might have an impact on they type, but not quantity of booze people buy. He says some of the bigger brands aren’t selling as well, but some of the “low end” brands are.Walding says the state sold 112-million dollars in alcohol last year, a majority in November and December.
