Iowans anxious to get the scoop on bowl trips

November 26, 2001 By admin

Even though Iowa State beat Iowa in Saturday’s football game, it appears -both- teams could still be heading to a bowl game. With the better record, Iowa State is virtually assured a bowl slot and many indications are it’ll be the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Hawkeyes, too, may be bowl bound. Chris Bavolack, associate executive director at the University of Iowa Alumni Association, urges Hawk fans who may be interested in a bowl trip to contact the alumni group.Bavolack wants fans who would take a bowl trip to send the association their email addresses or fax numbers so promotional information can be sent to them. He says the information may also be used to show potential bowl hosts how many fans it could bring along to cement a deal.Iowa has a shot at the Silicon Valley Football Classic in San Jose, California and the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, Idaho. The U-of-I Alumni Association is at “www.iowalum.com” or 800 IOWALUM. Iowa and Iowa State have NEVER both gone to bowl games in the same season.
