A former Iowa Congressman was to get back into politics. Cedar Falls democrat Dave Nagle says he’ll seek his party’s nomination for the new first district congressional seat in eastern Iowa. Nagle announced his candidacy today in Davenport, saying he wants to serve the U-S in this time of crisis, and to help Iowa rebuild its economy. Nagle will face long-time Bettendorf Mayor Ann Hutchinson in the primary. Nagle was elected to the U-S House in 1986. Republican Jim Nussle beat Nagle in 1992. Nagle lost again to Nussle two years later. Nagle ran against Republican Senator Charles Grassley in 1998, but pulled out of the race after being arrested for public intoxication, his third alcohol-related arrest. Nagle says he’s a recovering alcoholic.
