Three brothers are named in a central Iowa bank fraud scheme that involved millions of dollars. A federal grand jury Wednesday indicted Dirk Theirer of Carlisle, the former president of the now-closed Hartford-Carlisle Savings Bank. Theirer’s two brothers, Darin of Cedar Rapids and Donn of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, were also indicted, as they were both bank board members. They’re suspected of siphoning more than five million dollars in bank assets toward personal purchases, everything from real estate to boats and vehicles. Federal regulators closed the bank in suburban Des Moines in January of 2000 on suspicion of fraud. Convictions could bring prison terms of up to 30 years.
