The Iowa Hawkeyes open their own tournament tonight against Alabama State. The Hawkeyes are 4-2 after a loss to top-ranked Duke and coach Steve Alford says that game showed they need work on their half-court offense. He says they’re a good transition team, but need to learn the poise to play in the halfcourt game. Alford says the four-team field should be competitive.Alford says the tournament opens an important stretch of games for the Hawks as they begin playing the in-state games against UNI, Iowa State and Drake.
