The question “Got Milk?” may someday take on a whole new meaning. A study at the University of Iowa is trying to determine if fluoride in milk can help prevent cavities the same as fluoridated water. Romana Ivancakova of the Czech Republic is doing the study through an exchange program at the U-of-I. Ivancakova says studies in Europe have shown good results from putting fluoride in milk. The studies show some of the minerals in milk enhance the protection of the fluoride. She says putting fluoride in milk gives consumers more choice. With fluoridated milk, you have a choice to buy it, whereas everyone gets fluoride in a water supply whether they want it or not. The study will take nine months.
