December 3, 2001 By admin

The Sioux City Stockyards will close soon to make way for a Home Depot and other retail stores. Bob Welstead, a representative of the company that’s developing the land, says they began talking with the Home Depot folks two years ago. The site is near the intersection of two major highways. Welstead says the Stockyards’s business has dropped dramatically. Sioux City Stockyards manager Roger Gaswint says they’ll close April 1st.Gaswint says at one time, Sioux City had one of the country’s busiest stockyards.Dial Realty, the company that’s developing the land, handled the re-development of the Omaha stockyards.
