Tuba players will take center stage tomorrow in two Iowa cities to welcome the holidays with their horns.More than 100 tuba and euphonium players will celebrate the Christmas season by participating in “Tuba Christmas” in Southbridge Mall in Mason City Saturday. Local Tuba Christmas organizer Al Zook expects a good crowd.Zook started the Mason City celebration sixteen years ago when the mallopened and it has vastly grown from a group of six in 1985 to 130 last year.Zook says Tuba Christmas was established in 1974 in memory of an Iowanative. Creston native Bill Bell played with the NBC Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. Players of all ages wanting to participate should show up for practice Saturday morning at 10 o’clock, with the concert at Southbridge Mall at 1 o’clock.
