Demolition of a grain warehouse in Fort Dodge became dangerous this morning as the building caught fire. Fort Dodge Assistant Fire Chief Gene Habben says the call at the old Cargill plant came in just before nine a-m.When they arrived they found fire in the southeast storage bins extending all the way through the roof. Heavy winds fanned the flames and flying ashes caused a few dumpster and grass fires downwind of the building. Habben says 24 firefighters were called out. They still have trucks on the scene and will throughout the night to watch for any flare ups. Habben says they don’t know what caused the fire.Habben says the building has been vacant for several years, and was in the process of being demolished.
