Iowa cities get good marks for courtesy

December 14, 2001 By admin

Iowans are further expanding their reputation for saying “please” and “thank you” among other courtesies. Two Iowa metro areas rank in the top ten of this year’s list of best-mannered cities. The Quad Cities are number-four while Omaha-Council Bluffs ranks number-eight. Etiquette maven Marjabelle Young Stewart says the annual list is based on thousands of letters, faxes and e-mails sent to her from travelers and residents. On this latest list, New York City and Charleston, South Carolina are tied for number-one. Milwaukee is third and the rest of the top ten runs: Chicago, Portland (Oregon), Providence, Orlando and Miami.
