For the first time in at least a decade, fewer Iowans are expected to be traveling for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Triple-A Motor Club is predicting a six-percent drop in travel during the holidays this year, compared to last year. Triple-A-Iowa’s Barb Buchholz explains some of the reasons have to do with the September 11th terrorist attacks.She says shadows of attacks still have people a bit scared of air travel. That, coupled with the poor economic times, equals a drop in the overall holiday travel projection. Buchholz says the number of people traveling by car is only expected to be down one-percent from last year and 79-percent of all travelers are using cars. She says one benefit the motorists will find is the cheapest gasoline prices in a long time.Prices at many gas stations in Iowa and nationwide are hovering at or below a dollar a gallon.
