They were considered a surprise last year, but the Des Moines Area Community College men’s basketball team isn’t sneaking up on anybody this year. The team put together a complete turn-a-round last season in finishing with a record of 29-4. This season, second-year coach Orv Salmon and the Bears are established as one of the top division two junior college teams in the country.Salmon says the players enjoy the ranking but also understand what it takes to stay there.The top seven scorers are back from last year’s team but even though they are 11-1 Salmon feels his team got off to a slow start.Salmon says the new players have provided good depth.DMACC returns to action on January fifth.
